Sociomateriality (Orlikowski) — using it without 'tech as factor'

Why It Matters

I can't treat AI as just a tool. It changes the user. Sociomateriality gives me the language to say 'the student and the AI are an entangled unit'.

What To Learn

  • The absence of 'distinct' entities: The move from 'Interaction' (agential realism) to 'Intra-action' (Barad).
  • Performativity: How the algorithm brings a reality into being (e.g., The grade becomes real only when the AI acts).
  • Affordances vs. Constraints: What does the technology *allow* vs. what does it *demand*?
